Well you are going to be doing quite a bit of labor to change the rods... why not finish the job correctly then and have the peace of mind that you have done everything possible to prevent failure. Also, a spacer plate is the incorrect way of lowering compression. It not only increases squish which can promote detonation, but also alters cam timing when used without a set of adjustable cam sprockets. Just seems that if you are going to pull the motor, tear it all the way down to the crank, and re-assemble it after already investing in the YXZ, turbo kit, and all other mods that another $500-$600 to do it right would just make sense. Just my $0.02.

I blew a rod right through the engine cases on a brand new machine. It has a mpi turbo only 5 lbs of boost.

How many hours did you have on the setup before it blew? Would like to know the situation leading up to the failure.

Did you have an air fuel gauge on the car? The last MPI car I had on the dyno was extremely lean on the mapping. It would have of let go soon if the customer had not put it on the dyno to check the tune.

my local dealer installed the turbo. I drove professionally on a stock car team we always did must of our tuning just by the exhaust. My machine was definitely not on the lean side. It was just a total rod failure. I got to drive it for 30 min. Definitely putting the good rods and arp head bolts.

I think he was just saying that as long as your spending the cash to remove the head/cylinder you may as well install new pistons while your in there.

Stock motor, 5 psi MPI kit. Only reason I bought the MPI kit was because this isn't supposed to happen.
